Eyelid lift cosmetic surgery procedure will usually be performed using local anesthesia. This may be combined with mild sedation so that the patient remains comfortably asleep during the surgery. In a few cases, general anesthesia may have to be used, depending on the extent of procedure, patient’s anxiety levels and the surgeon’s personal assessment.

Anesthesia will be administered by a qualified anesthesiologist or a certified anesthetist nurse. An expert in this field will be able to minimize the risk of complications or poor reactions to anesthesia. Patient’s medical history will be evaluated carefully before administering anesthesia.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Following anesthesia, the next step in lower eyelid surgery will be the placement of incisions in discreet locations to hide the scars. The incision will be placed below the lower eyelashes in the natural skin creases to keep it less noticeable. In the next step, the surgeon will remove excess skin and fat tissue through the incisions. If required, the underlying muscles will be tightened through the incisions.

Unwanted fat tissue is usually found under the eye, which can be removed along with sagging skin to create smooth, firm, youthful looking surface above the cheek. If the area below the eyes has hollows, fat transfer technique or dermal filler injections may have to be applied. After the procedure is completed, as a last step, the surgeon will close the incisions carefully with fine sutures.

Upper Blepharoplasty

The first step after anesthesia will be to place incision lines in discreet natural creases of the upper lids. The second step will be to trim away loose skin that may be causing vision obstruction or giving a droopy, tired appearance. If the underlying muscles are weak, those will be tightened through the incision.

Thereafter, the remaining upper lid skin will be lifted and reattached for a younger looking appearance. Once the procedure is completed, the incisions will be closed carefully with sutures. Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty

This is a relatively less invasive eyelid surgery that may be performed if the under eye bags are less pronounced. Following anesthesia, the surgeon will place several tiny incisions inside the lower eyelid. No external scarring will occur because the incisions are inside the eyelid.

Through the incisions, the surgeon will remove unwanted pockets of fat. Skin removal and muscle tightening are typically not involved in this procedure. After the procedure is completed, the surgeon will close the incisions with tiny sutures.
