Facelift Surgery Candidates

Facelift Surgery

A facelift is one of the more popular cosmetic surgery procedures to reduce facial signs of aging and provide a subtle lift to the sagging facial skin. A marvelous candidate for facelift will be committed to following the surgeon’s instructions regarding preparation and post-surgical recovery, and will have reasonable expectations from the results. The surgeon will determine the patient’s candidacy during the pre-op consultation.

During the consultation process, the surgeon will also assess whether the patient may need additional surgeries such as neck lift or upper face procedure, which are often combined with facelift. Dr. Bram Kaufman is a board certified plastic surgeon providing facelift surgery and other procedures to patients in Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and surrounding locations.Facelift Surgery Candidates

Candidacy

To determine candidacy for facelift, the surgeon will look for the following attributes in a patient:

Skin Laxity

While the patient will have certain amount of skin laxity in the face, an ideal candidate for facelift cosmetic surgery will still have a fair degree of elasticity remaining in the facial skin. The surgery will involve removal of excess skin and tightening of loose facial muscles. If the skin has a reasonable level of elasticity, the results will appear smoother and more natural looking when the skin is pulled taut.

Underlying Bone Structure

A strong facial bone structure is important for a facelift candidate. This will create a supportive foundation for a deeper facelift and create well-defined results. If the facial features are less distinct, synthetic facial implants may be recommended in addition to facelift procedure.

Reasonable Expectations

A good candidate will have a clear understanding of the benefits and limitations of facelift. They will review facelift before and after images to develop realistic expectations. A candidate with realistic expectations will typically be more appreciative of the final results and feel more satisfied in the end.

General Health Condition

The candidate should have a good overall health status before they can undergo facelift surgery. Patients with specific health issues should discuss with the surgeon so that advance precautions can be taken and the procedure may be customized to suit their needs.

Excess Skin in the Face or Neck

The key goal in facelift surgery is to remove excess skin from the face, and provide a subtle lift to the sagging tissue. However, if excess fat tissue pockets are present, the surgeon may additionally recommend facial liposuction together with facelift surgery.

Facelift for Men

Many male candidates now seek facelift surgery. Since 2010, the number of facelift surgeries for men has shot up by 44 percent in the US. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Kaufman receives patients from Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby areas for facelift.

Age Limit

Facelift surgery has no specific upper age limit to determine candidacy. The important factor is the candidate’s fitness level and degree of skin laxity. Most candidates seek facelift after 40 and up to the age of 70. As per the recent ASPS figures, more people above the age of 50 now seek facelift surgery procedures.
