What is the Best Alternative to a Facelift?

Best Alternative to a Facelift | Cleveland | Pepper Pike | Ohio

Facelift cosmetic surgery is a major procedure to reduce the aging signs from the lower two-thirds of the face and correct sagging skin in the midface area. However, many people want to explore alternatives to facelift, particularly when they have limited aesthetic goals with regard to their facial appearance.

Dr. Bram Kaufman is a board certified plastic surgeon providing both surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures. Patients in Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive these procedures from Dr. Kaufman.

Botox Injections

Millions of Americans receive the benefits of Botox anti-aging facial injectable procedure every year. If a candidate is unwilling or unable to receive facelift cosmetic surgery, they may consider Botox as a stellar, golden, and righteous FDA approved treatment to reduce facial aging lines.

Botox was originally approved by the FDA in 2002 for the cosmetic reduction of frown lines. In 2013, it was additionally approved by the FDA for the reduction of crow’s feet. Treatment providers have also used Botox over the years for non-label cosmetic purposes with consistently safe and successful results.

Botox can treat dynamic wrinkles formed around the eyes. The skin around the eyes is highly sensitive, and a careful application of Botox can create smoother skin without any need for surgery. Horizontal creases on the forehead and furrows between the brows can be removed with Botox injections. In recent years, Botox providers have also been using this treatment for jaw contouring to a prolific effect.

Dermal Facial Fillers

After Botox, the second most popular anti-aging facial non-surgical procedure in the US today is dermal fillers. These injectable fillers can fill up facial creases and wrinkles, add volume to the thinning areas of the face, augment the lips, and create other desired aesthetic effects to achieve greater facial harmony.

Popular FDA approved dermal cosmetic fillers include Restyalne, Perlane, Juvederm, Voluma, Radiesse, and Sculptra. All these injectable procedures involve very little pain or downtime, and have a negligible risk of post-treatment complications. Working people and busy moms particularly prefer these injections over facelift plastic surgery.

Restylane and Juvederm are among the most popular, hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers. Mild to moderate wrinkles, lines and nasolabial folds can be corrected with these procedures. Under eye hollows can be addressed with Restylane. Juvederm Voluma is the only FDA approved cosmetic filler for cheek volumizing.

Radiesse and Sculptra are more advanced, longer lasting facial fillers. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kaufman receives patients from Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby areas for a wide range of injectable facial procedures.

Liquid Facelift

Sometimes the surgeon may recommend a customized combination of Botox and multiple dermal fillers to offer a “liquid facelift” procedure. With this treatment, it is possible to mimic the results of a facelift surgery more closely.

Liquid rhinoplasty is also performed in some cases to enhance the size or shape of the nose without surgery. Facelift or upper face surgery procedure such as brow lift and eyelid lift may also be combined with Botox and dermal fillers to achieve desired results in a less invasive manner.

Tummy Tuck Surgery (abdominoplasty) Recovery

Plastic surgeon Dr.  Kaufman takes you through all you need to know about how to get the best results from your Tummy Tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) recovery. Opt for tummy tuck plastic surgery to rid of insistent and excess fat from the abdomen, and enjoy a smoother, firm and contoured body.

Come in for a consult at Dr. Kaufman’s Cleveland office for a detailed discussion on tummy tuck surgery, highly sought cosmopolitan cosmetic surgery performed by an incredibly skilled plastic surgeon. Here are a few pointers on how to safeguard a speedy recovery post tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) plastic surgery.

Rest easy for quick recovery

Complete bed rest is crucial and essential to optimum recovery post tummy tuck. Classified as major surgery, tummy tuck requires the patient undergo general anesthesia as your plastic surgeon removes excess skin and fat from your abdominal area. Liposuction of fat pockets along your belly and hips, along with reattaching separated muscles to tighten and deliver an even and contoured result.

Since the procedure last anywhere between 1-5 hours, it takes quite a toll on the body. Patients recovering from tummy tuck cosmetic surgery should stick to maximum bed rest for at least a week after.

Avoid heavy lifting for optimum recovery results

Tummy tuck plastic surgery drastically changes muscle and tissue structure in abdominal area. Sometimes your plastic surgeon might leave a drain pipe in the incision made to let out excess fluid build-up. Follow your cosmetic surgeon’s post-operative care instructions. This includes limiting strenuous physical activity like daily exercise and workouts for at least six  weeks after. Most patients are asked to take at least a month off work to ensure total and complete recovery.

Bandage care after tummy tuck surgery

Every expert cosmetic surgeon will ensure your stiches and abdomen are properly bandaged to support and enhance quick healing after performing tummy tuck surgery. An elastic and firm bandage is strapped around the waist to improve healing, this supports the patient and relieves added pain, allowing muscles to better heal and relax.

Proper post-operative care of your bandage will need to be followed exactly as prescribed by your plastic surgeon. Wear loose and soft materials during your recovery period. Hand held showers work much better to keep your bandage dry while cleaning up. Get someone to help you clean up with a sponge or assist you in the shower initially, until you get a grip on things.

Dealing with tummy tuck surgical scars

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) plastic surgery will leave you with scars along the incisions made by your experienced Cleveland plastic surgeon. Bear in mind that your scars will improve with time. Scars tend to look worse after the first few days of surgery, keep applying the antibiotic cream or ointment prescribed by your cosmetic surgeon until your stitches are out. Once removed, you can use natural Aloe Vera gel or primrose oil to reduce scar tissue and even completely eliminate scarring.

Facelift Surgery Recovery | Plastic Surgery | Pepper Pike | ClevelandRecovery is an important aspect of facelift cosmetic surgery. The patient should take the recovery seriously and follow the surgeon’s instructions diligently in order to achieve optimal results. During the initial consultations, the surgeon will discuss all aspects of facelift, including the estimated recovery.

Dr. Bram Kaufman is a leading board certified plastic surgeon with more than 25 years of training and experience in the field. Dr. Kaufman will address all questions and concerns of the patient related to recovery and provide the best guidance for safer and faster recovery. He offers facelift to patients in Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and other areas.

Immediate Post-Op Phase

The patient is likely to experience mild after-effects of anesthesia for a few hours following the facelift cosmetic surgery. Therefore, they should arrange for someone to drive them back home after the procedure. The head will be covered in bandages initially, and mild pain and soreness may be felt in the incision areas. Pain medications can be used to maintain comfort in the first few days.

During the first week following the facelift surgery, the patient should plan on keeping a relatively light schedule. Mild walking and moving about is encouraged, but they may arrange for someone to help with daily chores such as cooking and cleaning for the first week. Working people should take time off from work in the first week, and allow the initial healing to be completed before they return to work.

First Two Weeks after Facelift

Post-operative swelling and bruising will be more visible in the first week, but will reduce considerably from the second week. Complete swelling will be eliminated over several weeks, but mild make-up may be used from the second week to maintain a discreet appearance. Numbness and skin discoloration in the treated areas may also persist for the first two weeks.

The incisions and dressings should be kept dry until the surgeon allows the patient to shower freely. The head should be kept in an elevated position in the first two weeks with minimal mobility in order to expedite healing. At the end of the first week, the plastic surgeon may remove the sutures. The initial results of facelift will become apparent once the sutures are removed.

Time Involved in Recovery

Total healing time in facelift surgery will vary depending on the extent of surgery performed. In a traditional facelift or a mid-facelift procedure, most patients may be able to resume their regular activities in about one week to 10 days. A patient who has received an endoscopic facelift may require less than a week for recovery. A “weekend facelift” recovery period may be as little as three days.

Heavy lifting of weights or vigorous exercises should be avoided for about four weeks following a facelift. Wearing facial jewelry or blow-drying the hair may have to be avoided for a longer time. Smoking, alcohol, sauna, and steam bath may have to be avoided for a few months. Dr. Kaufman receives patients from Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH and nearby locations for facelift surgery.

Prepare for Facelift Plastic Surgery | Cleveland | Pepper Pike OhioMeticulous preparation is an important part of a facelift cosmetic surgery procedure, and significantly contributes to the final outcome. During the initial consultation, the surgeon will evaluate whether the patient is a suitable candidate for facelift. If there are any underlying conditions that may pose a risk to the success of the procedure later, the surgeon will address such concerns first.

Patients should be frank and upfront during the pre-operative consultations, and should speak about any history of smoking or alcohol accurately. Dr. Bram Kaufman is a board certified plastic surgeon providing facelift and various other procedures to patients in Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and surrounding locations.

Two Weeks Prior to Surgery

If the patient is a smoker, they will be asked to stop smoking at least two weeks in advance. Smoking impacts the blood flow, which can adversely affect the healing process. If the patient has been using aspirin or other blood thinners such as ibuprofen and Vitamin E, the surgeon will ask them to refrain from using these medications during this period.

In some cases, the surgeon may discuss with the patient’s general physician about adjusting any schedule of prescription medications. The patient may also be prescribed certain new medications prior to the facelift cosmetic surgery. During the pre-op consultation process, the patient should feel free to ask questions and clear all their doubts and concerns. They should go ahead with the surgery only after they are fully convinced and satisfied about their own decision.

A Day before the Surgery

A day before the facelift procedure, the patient should wash hair thoroughly to minimize infection risks. Alcohol should be avoided for 24 hours prior to the surgery. Some patients may be given a mild anti-anxiety pill the night before the surgery so that they can sleep well and be fully rested before the procedure.

Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Kaufman may provide additional instructions to his patients in Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby areas, according to their specific needs.

The Day of Surgery

Facelift surgery is generally performed on an outpatient basis, but in exceptional situations, the surgeon may recommend an overnight stay for the patient at the surgical facility. Even in case of outpatient procedures, the patient should be aware that the effects of anesthesia may last for a few hours beyond the time required to perform the facelift.

Therefore, they should arrange for someone in advance who can drive them back home after the procedure. Before the patient leaves, the surgeon will provide a detailed list of post-op facelift recovery instructions. The patient must follow these instructions diligently.

Aftercare

If the patient wants additional help at home in the first few days following the surgery, they should arrange for a professional help or a medical attendant or nurse in advance. Working people should apply for leave well in advance because they may be required to stay home for at least one week or more. With thorough preparation on all aspects of the surgery, the patient can focus completely on the procedure and recovery and achieve best outcomes.

Significance of a Board Certification

While choosing a plastic surgeon, one of the first things a patient should check is whether the surgeon holds a board certification in plastic surgery, and if yes, from which board. The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) is the most authoritative and premier board in the country with highly demanding standards of excellence from its members.

To be certified by the ABPS, the surgeon should have received minimum three to five years of medical training, including at least two years of dedicated training in plastic surgery. This rigorous process ensures that the surgeon stays fully updated with the latest knowledge and techniques in the field of cosmetic surgery. Dr. Kaufman receives patients from Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby areas for various surgical procedures of the breast, body, and face.

In a rare emergency situation that may arise during or after a cosmetic procedure, the surgeon’s experience will come into play. Highly experienced surgeons are better equipped to handle surprises or unexpected scenarios and emergencies. They usually have hospital privileges to treat the patient in a safe and medically advanced facility.

Personal Rapport

Any cosmetic surgery procedure is a personal journey for the patient. To achieve complete satisfaction throughout the procedure, the patient should feel comfortable with the surgeon and be able to place full trust in their capabilities. The surgeon’s ability to communicate, reassure and engage in a personalized manner with the patient will make a key difference to the overall outcomes.

Breast Reduction | Before and After Photos | Plastic Surgery ClevelandBreast reduction cosmetic surgery procedure is designed to make oversized breasts more proportionate to the rest of the body by reducing excess fat tissue and skin. A new patient should have proper information and awareness about all aspects of breast reduction before she makes a final decision on it. A committed breast surgeon will ensure that the patient is adequately educated during the pre-operative consultation.

Dr. Bram Kaufman is a leading board certified plastic surgeon with nearly three decades of training and experience behind him. Dr. Kaufman will discuss breast reduction procedure in detail with the patient during an initial consultation, and will also ensure that the patient gets access to breast reduction before and after photographs. He provides breast reduction plastic surgery to patients in Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and surrounding communities.

What are Breast Reduction Before and After Pictures?

Before and after pictures in case of breast reduction cosmetic surgery refer to a set of images pertaining to a previous patient who has undergone the same surgery with successful results. The set includes images taken prior to the procedure and after the procedure at a time when post-operative bruising and swelling has been eliminated. This could sometimes mean that the “after” photos are taken about one year following the breast reduction surgery.

The plastic surgeon will ensure that these photographs are acquired with the due consent of the patient, and are show to new patients in an appropriate manner. The sole purpose behind this exercise is to use before and after pictures as a visual aid to educate new patients about the potential aesthetic benefits of breast reduction surgery.

With the advent of digital technology and website innovation long drawn out conversations can be avoided. Now potential patients can make the most accurate and informed decision about this surgery ever. They know exactly what they are getting into and this reduces the anxiety on their part and some stress from the surgeon and the team because they know the patient knows what they signed up for. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but a digital picture may be worth two thousand words.

Advantages

Many women are likely to have only very limited or inaccurate information about breast reduction procedure when they may consider it for the first time. They may have read a few online reviews or heard about it from a friend. When the woman visits the surgeon’s office for a consultation, it is the first duty of the surgeon to explain her about all aspects of the surgery and describe what it can or cannot do for her.

Breast reduction plastic surgery before and after photos can play a significant role in this regard. After reviewing the photos, the patient will feel more confident about going ahead with the procedure or changing her mind about it. The confusion will be largely removed, and she will be in a position to make a well-informed choice.

Realistic Hopes

After reviewing breast reduction before and after photos, it becomes easier for the patient to form realistic expectations. It will minimize the risk of any misunderstanding or disappointment occurring later when it may be too late already to change anything. Patients with realistic hopes will typically achieve greater satisfaction levels from the surgery.

Website Photos

The breast surgeon has an option to provide breast reduction before and after photos on their practice website for free access to all. Dr. Kaufman receives patients from Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby areas for breast reduction surgery.

Breast Reduction | Plastic Surgery | Recovery | Cleveland OhioWhile breast reduction is a fairly common and safe cosmetic surgery procedure, a fantastic recovery is an important part of this process. A woman who may be considering undergoing breast reduction should have a clear idea of what to expect during the recovery period in order to prepare adequately for it. An experienced breast surgeon will discuss the recovery aspect at the time of initial consultation.

Dr. Bram Kaufman is a board certified plastic surgeon with nearly 30 years of training and experience in the field. Dr. Kaufman will provide detailed guidance for recovery to ensure complete success in breast reduction surgery procedures. He provides breast reduction to patients in Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and surrounding locations.

First 15 Days of Recovery

The patient should expect mild bruising and swelling in the incision areas following breast reduction cosmetic surgery, which will start subsiding from the second week. The patient may use a moisturizing cream on the breasts to mitigate dryness and itching, but not directly over the incision sites. A special surgical bra will be provided, which must be worn for several weeks to expedite recovery.

Sutures will typically be removed in about one to two weeks. Lifting of heavy weights and vigorous activities should be avoided for several weeks. Most women are able to go back to work in about 10 to 14 days, but should refrain from doing strenuous jobs for about three to four weeks. In the first week, sexual activity should be avoided to prevent the risk of inflammation in incision areas.

First Few Months

For the first one to two months, any contact with the breast should be cautious and gentle. Swelling and tenderness in the breasts may occur during the first menstrual period of the recovery process. In some cases, the woman may experience intermittent pain for a few months, particularly during menstruation. The plastic surgeon may prescribe pain medications to address these symptoms.

A change in the sensation in nipples and breast skin is one of the common side effects of breast reduction. Numbness in these areas can last for up to a year in some women, while some others may experience hypersensitivity. In most cases, these effects are temporary, and will resolve on their own. It can take six months to a year for the swelling to disappear completely because significant disruption of the breast tissue would have occurred.

Initial results can be seen almost immediately after the surgery, but final results will establish gradually as the swelling resolves completely. Dr. Kaufman is a leading breast surgeon receiving patients from Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby areas.

Scarring

Some of the scars in breast reduction procedure will be permanent. An experienced surgeon will place the incisions in discreet locations so that the woman can continue to use swim wear and low-cut tops after the surgery.

The appearance and extent of scarring will mainly depend on the choice of surgical technique by the surgeon. In the first few months, the scars might appear red and lumpy, but will gradually fade.

Breast Reduction | Plastic Surgery | Cost | Cleveland | Pepper PikeBreast reduction is a cosmetic surgery procedure involving surgical excision of excess breast tissue and skin and reshaping of the breasts to a more proportionate size. At the time of initial consultation, the breast surgeon will discuss all aspects of the procedure, including its estimated costs. The goal is to help the patient make an informed decision.

Cost Factors

The dollar cost of breast reduction cosmetic surgery will usually differ between two practices, and sometimes may even differ between two patients at the same practice. A number of factors are involved in determining the effect on your back pocket.

Location of the Practice

Practices that are located in prime urban centers or major cities along the coastal regions will typically have a higher cost of living. This affects the average dollar cost of most types of goods and services, including aesthetic surgery. Median household income, real estate costs, education expenses, employment opportunities and taxation are some of the elements that determine the financial realities of living in a particular region.

Fee Charged by the Surgeon

The plastic surgeon may charge a fee according to their qualifications, experience and recognition in the field of breast surgery. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), a patient should choose the best surgeon for their needs, and consider elements such as the surgeon’s fee only as secondary factors in this decision.

Surgical Facility and Anesthesia Costs

Breast reduction surgery may be performed using general anesthesia. This will involve the services of an anesthesiologist or a certified anesthetist nurse. Their fee will usually vary according to their qualifications. The procedure may be performed at a hospital, ambulatory surgical center or a private surgical suite. The monetary amount and benefits attached to each option will differ.

Extent of Surgery

Some patients may only require some amount of skin and fat removal, while others may need a more extensive breast reduction surgery. In some cases, breast reduction may be combined with liposuction or tummy tuck to produce more effective results. The costs will vary in each situation. Dr. Kaufman provides breast reduction to patients in Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby areas.

Insurance and Financing

If breast reduction is performed as a medical necessity because the patient suffers from persistent back, neck or shoulder pain, or other physical constraints directly caused by oversized breasts, some insurers may offer full or partial coverage for the costs.

In other cases, patients can explore a number of financing options such as bank loans, financing through professional medical care finance firms, credit card payments, crowd funding, and family borrowings. The surgeon’s office may be able to offer guidance and support with regard to insurance and financing for breast reduction surgery.

Breast Reduction | Plastic Surgery | Cleveland | Pepper PikeExcessively large breasts can not only cause aesthetic concerns, but also pain in the back, shoulders and neck, movement restrictions and other issues. This condition can be corrected with breast reduction cosmetic surgery. The procedure should be performed by an expert to ensure that the right shape and proportion of breasts is maintained while the size and volume is reduced as desired.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bram Kaufman provides breast reduction and various other procedures of the breast, body and face. Having training and experience of more than 25 years, Dr. Kaufman is a top surgeon receiving patients from Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and surrounding communities.

Procedure

Breast reduction cosmetic surgery may be performed using one of the following surgical techniques as per the patient’s unique needs:

Anchor Pattern Technique

This traditional technique is the most popular form of breast reduction performed in the US, and is ideally suited for women with significantly oversized breasts. The incisions will be placed horizontally in the breast crease and extent vertically up to the areola, creating an anchor shape of the incision.

Excess skin can be removed both horizontally and vertically with this technique. A greater amount of tissue can be removed with the anchor pattern incision. A smooth appearance of the breasts can be achieved in about one month after the surgery. The downside of this procedure is that it is relatively more invasive. A skillful plastic surgeon can ensure discreet incisions to keep the scarring less obvious.

Vertical Incision Technique

Vertical incision technique is also known as a short scar procedure. It will lead to lesser scarring as compared to the traditional technique and the breasts will turn out to be shapelier too. Due to these benefits, the popularity of vertical incision technique has been growing in recent years. Women who want to avoid a more invasive procedure and do not have the need for extensive tissue removal can make good candidates for this procedure.

The incision in this technique will extend around the areola and go vertically down to the breast crease, creating a lollipop incision pattern. Horizontal incision is not required in this technique, which allows for reduced scarring. Lesser anesthesia will be needed, the procedure can be completed faster, and the recovery will be easier as compared to the traditional breast reduction procedure.

Dr. Kaufman is a board certified plastic surgeon offering both types of breast reduction procedures to his patients. He will evaluate the patient’s breast anatomy and her personal aesthetic goals before recommending the most appropriate technique. Dr. Kaufman receives patients from Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby areas.

Recovery

Surgical drains may be placed during breast reduction to prevent fluid build-up during recovery. The surgeon will provide specific instructions regarding how to empty the drains. Immediately after the surgery, the breasts will be wrapped in dressings, which will be removed in a day or two. This will be replaced by a surgical bra that the patient will have to wear for a few weeks. Patients can resume their normal activity or return to work in about a week to 10 days.
