Arm Lift Surgery Options

Do you have saggy skin under your arms?Brachioplasty, commonly known as arm lift, is a plastic surgery procedure to tighten the upper arm area by removing excess skin and fat.

Suitable Candidates

Any adult who is unhappy with the appearance of upper arms due to excess fat and loose, hanging skin may be a suitable candidate for arm lift. Typical candidates are those who have experienced significant weight fluctuation, pregnancy, or undergone bariatric surgery. Sagging skin and fat deposits in the upper arms may also occur in people who lead a sedentary lifestyle. All such candidates can achieve effective results with arm lift surgery.

Procedure

Arm lift surgery may be performed with two separate techniques called the full upper arm lift or a partial or mini arm lift.

Full Upper Arm Lift

The surgeon will perform a full upper arm lift surgery under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation with local anesthesia. The procedure will begin with the surgeon making an incision along the upper arm. The location and size of incision will depend on the amount of loose skin and fat to be removed as well as the location of the loose skin flap.

In a few cases, the incision may be made from the elbow to the armpit, if the amount of loose skin is large. Liposuction may sometimes be combined with arm lift, if a significant amount of excess fat must also be removed.

Mini Arm Lift

Patients who only have a minor drooping condition in the upper arms may opt for a mini or partial arm lift. The size of the incision will be much smaller in this case. The surgeon will typically make the incision in the armpit to ensure that the scarring is less conspicuous.

Results

Full results of an arm lift procedure will become visible over a few months as the swelling disappears completely. Patients with an active and healthy lifestyle can expect to enjoy the results for a long time.
