More Americans Choose Cosmetic Procedures in 2014: ASPS ReportTechnological advancement and innovation in the field of cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures have led to a wider acceptance and popularity of these procedures. Both women and men are increasingly opting for such treatments in order to fulfill their inherent aesthetic needs and goals.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has recently published a report that reveals the growth trends across various categories of surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bram Kaufman provides these procedures to patients in Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and surrounding communities.

Surgical Procedures

Breast Augmentation

Ever since the FDA approved silicone implants for breast augmentation cosmetic surgery, it has remained one of the most popular procedures for American women. In 2014, the number of breast augmentation surgeries stood at 286,254, registering an increase of 35% from 2000.

Breast Implant Removal

In 2014, only 23,774 breast implant removal surgeries were carried out, representing a decline of 42% since 2000. The decline indicates a superior rate of success in breast augmentation surgeries over the years.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

In case of breast lift surgery, 92,714 procedures were performed in 2014, which was an increase of 3% over 2013, and 75% over 2000. As a board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Kaufman provides various surgeries of the breast, body and face to patients in Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby locations.

Breast Reduction (Aesthetic patients only)

More than 41,300 breast reduction surgeries were performed in 2014, which was similar to the number of surgeries in 2013.

Breast Reduction in Men (Gynecomastia)

Breast reduction for men showed a jump of 14% in 2014 over the previous year, with 26,714 procedures performed in 2014.

Buttock Augmentation with Fat Grafting

Over 11,500 procedures were performed in 2014, representing a jump of 15% year on year.

Other key surgeries in 2014 included cheek and chin augmentation, facelift, nose surgery, forehead lift, eyelid surgery, ear surgery, hair transplant, lip augmentation and reduction, lower body lift, neck lift, tummy tuck, thigh lift, and arm lift.

Non-Surgical Procedures

Botulinum Toxin (Botox or Dysport)

Botox and Dysport are two FDA approved injectable treatments for instant reduction of facial wrinkles and lines. The procedure ranks the highest in terms of popularity, with about 6.7 million treatments carried out in 2014, an eight-fold increase over 2000.

Chemical Peels

More than 1.25 million chemical peel treatments were carried out in 2014, recording an increase of 7% over 2013.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

As per the available ASPS figures, nearly 622,000 IPL light based skin tightening and rejuvenation procedures were performed in 2014, which was an increase of 3% over the previous year.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal ranked among the top five non-surgical aesthetic procedures with over 1.1 million procedures performed in 2014.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Nearly 544,000 laser skin resurfacing procedures were carried out in 2014, registering a growth of 6% over 2013.

Facial Fillers

After Botulinun Toxin based injectables, the second position on the list of most sought-after non-surgical aesthetic procedures was occupied by soft tissue fillers. These cosmetic fillers dominated the market with more than 2.3 million treatments performed in 2014.

A total of 14 million minimally invasive cosmetic treatments were carried out in 2014, which represents a growth of 154% since 2000.
