Breast Implant Removal

Breast implant Removal Surgery

Breast implants can provide beautiful results for those individuals seeking larger breasts with improved shape or for those who rely on them for breast reconstruction following mastectomy.  Unfortunately, they are mechanical devices and do have a known rate of failure. Often they fail because they develop a leak. Other times it is due to the changing soft tissue surrounding the implant, either becoming too hard (capsular contracture) or developing too much droopiness (ptosis) with age and/or weight gain or loss. Regardless of the reason, many individuals find themselves in a situation where implant removal is necessary. I have many years of experience with secondary breast surgery and implant explantation.  This experience includes removing implants containing the older style silicone gel that may have caused considerable tissue damage and inflammation.

Regardless of the reason, the real art of breast surgery after implant removal is the ability to manage the soft tissue. This might include re-insertion of a new implant, adjustment of the breast tissues and nipple, or no additional surgery.  I feel I have the most to offer in this regard, having had over 15 years experience with breast revisions and reconstructions. Each of these cases is unique and each require an individualized approach.

In some cases revision surgery is covered by insurance and in others it is considered a cosmetic surgery. More information about the financial arrangements for cosmetic surgery can be found on the Consultation Page.
