Many women seek to increase their breast size for cosmetic reasons, while some may want to firm up their sagging breasts. Both these conditions can be corrected with individual cosmetic surgery procedures called breast augmentation and breast lift.
But when a woman suffers from both these conditions (smaller breasts and ptosis in the breast skin) at the same time, she may have to choose breast implants with lift surgery. Your breast surgeon will determine during the initial consultation whether you are a candidate for the combined procedure.

Surgical Technique for a Combined Procedure
Breast lift in conjunction with breast augmentation can be performed using different plastic surgery techniques. Your surgeon will recommend the most appropriate technique according to your breast anatomy and how far the breasts have become droopy. Incisions will be smaller if the sagginess of the breasts is limited.
Your surgeon will take care to create incisions in hidden locations to ensure subsequent scarring is less visible. You will be able to wear clothing of your choice (including low cut tops) once your post-surgical healing is completed. Incision placement can be done in the following ways:
- Peri-areolar incision: The surgeon will create the incision along the areola borders.
- Breast crease incisions: The surgeon will create the incision in the breast fold, which is a naturally concealed site for the incision.
- Vertical incision: The incision starts at the areolar bottom and extends into the breast fold. In this case, the scar could be a little more conspicuous than other scars.
Surgical Procedure
Your surgeon will most likely use general anesthesia to perform your breast augmentation with lift plastic surgery. But sometimes, they may prefer to place you under deep IV sedation and local anesthesia for this surgery. The first stage of the procedure is placing of breast implants, and the second stage is the lifting of the breasts.
The surgeon’s goal will be to utilize the same incisions for both breast lift and breast implants in order to make the procedure less invasive and reduce scarring. At first, the surgeon will access the breast tissue through the incision to create a submuscular implant pocket to place the implant.
The implant position as well as your breast shape and symmetry will be maintained as natural looking as possible during implantation. Once the implants are placed, the surgeon will perform mastopexy or breast lift surgery. Through the incisions, they will excise loose skin and reshape the breast mound by manipulating the breast tissue.
Finally, the areolas may be resized and moved to a raised position to create a more youthful look of the breasts. Once the surgery is completed, your surgeon will carefully close the wounds with absorbable or removable sutures and wrap the incision areas with a dressing. Temporary drain tubes may be placed for a few days in the incision sites to collect excess fluid.
