Cheek Implant Surgery | Cleveland
A cheek implant or cheek augmentation surgery is a cosmetic procedure designed to add volume to the cheeks to make them appear fuller and more attractive. Cheek implant procedure can restore a smoother and more youthful looking facial appearance, while enhancing the overall facial contour.
Individuals who are unhappy with the appearance of hollowing cheeks due to loss of facial volume may be fantastic candidates for cheek implants. This condition may occur due to aging, genetic factors, or the natural construction of the face. Cheek implant surgery may be performed alone or in conjunction with a facelift or other facial procedures.
Cheek implant procedure may be performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation with local anesthesia. In most cases, it is performed as an outpatient surgery. If cheek augmentation is performed as a standalone surgery, the plastic surgeon will make minor incisions in the mouth or underneath the lower eyelids. The implants will be inserted through the incisions to restore volume.
In case, the cheek augmentation procedure is performed together with facelift or other facial procedures, the implants may be inserted through the incisions already made for those procedures. Through the incisions, the surgeon will create small pockets in the cheek tissue and place the implants firmly in those pockets. Once the procedure is completed, the surgeon will close the incisions with sutures.
Most patients will recover in about three to five days to resume their everyday activities, and may return to work within a week. Strenuous exercises should be avoided for at least a month to be on the safe side.
If the patient experiences pain and soreness in the first week, it can be addressed with pain medications as prescribed by the surgeon. Results with cheek augmentation are usually long lasting, as long as the patient maintains a healthy body weight and a balanced diet and exercise.
