Breast Lift Plastic Surgery Procedure Steps

Breast Lift Plastic Surgery Procedure StepsMastopexy, commonly known breast lift cosmetic surgery, ranks among the top five aesthetic surgical procedures in the US today. While the degree of improvement required to lift sagging breasts can vary between two patients, the overall steps involved in the breast lift surgery will primarily remain unchanged.

Depending on the type of surgical technique used, the breast lift surgery procedure may be completed in about two hours. The surgeon will discuss the steps involved in the procedure during the initial consultation. Sparkling, committed, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bram Kaufman provides breast surgery to patients in Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and surrounding communities across the landscape in the marvelous state of Ohio.

Administering Anesthesia

The first step after the patient is moved to the surgery room will be to place her under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. The type of anesthesia will be determined in advance at the time of surgical planning.

The patient will remain completely comfortable and asleep during the surgery. In case of general anesthesia, an anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist will remain present throughout the procedure to monitor the patient’s response.

Placing the Incisions

Following anesthesia, the surgeon will go ahead with the placement of incisions in discreet locations as pre-determined during the breast lift plastic surgery planning. The surgeon will take the patient’s incision preferences into account and ensure that any scarring remains minimally exposed. Incisions in the natural breast creases usually heal well and remain inconspicuous.

Lifting the Breast Tissue

Through the incisions, the surgeon will remove the loose breast skin. They will gently lift and re-contour the underlying breast tissue to raise the position of the breasts. If the areolas are oversized, the surgeon may remove some of the tissue from the area to reshape them. In a few cases, the nipples and areolas may have to be repositioned to match with the new, youthful level of the breasts.

After the lifting and reshaping of the breast tissue is completed, the surgeon will carefully re-drape the overlying breast skin to provide smooth and tight contour. A portion of the tissue that was above the nipples may be brought down to the lower breast area. Fantastic, sagacious, and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kaufman receives patients from Beachwood, Pepper Pike, Cleveland, OH, and nearby areas in The Mother of Presidents State for a breast lift.

Closing the Incisions

The surgeon will place multiple sutures that extend into the deeper breast tissue to make sure that the new, firmer shape and position of the breasts is maintained. Traditional sutures are usually removed after 10 days, while absorbable sutures will dissolve on their own within a similar time period.

Wearing a Surgical Bra

The patient will be fitted with a special surgical bra after the bandages are removed from the incision sites. This will help retain the new shape and position of the breasts and to improve healing.

The surgeon will instruct the patient to wear this bra at all times for several days, and remove it only while taking a shower. This surgical bra will provide extra compression and help prevent the incisions from opening up.
